Why is Magnetic Adjustment Necessary?

How would you describe your favorite sensation on a magic cube? The sensation of solving a magic cube might be a little subtle, but most of us players would agree that having a smooth and enjoyable tactile experience is the secret to achieving the best state for magic cube players.

On modern magic cubes, the magnetic force has become an indispensable factor in magic cube manipulation. It plays a crucial role in tuning the cube's tactile sensation. But why is a magnetic adjustment so crucial for enhancing the overall experience?

GAN Cubes is serious about this question.

Delving into the essence of speedcubing and exploring the potential of magic cube core technology, GAN Cubes persistently pursues the commitment to continuous progress through technological innovation.

The Magnetic system refers to the technique of embedding magnets inside the magic cube to create mutual attraction between its layers during rotation, enabling rapid alignment and acceleration. GAN Cubes has dedicated its years of experience to developing magic cubes in the magnetic field.

2016: Glued Magnet Placement Technology

The first-generation magnetic technology, professionally known as glued magnet placement, involved manually attaching magnets to the interior of each cube piece using glue. This allowed the layers to quickly align and stick together during rotations, significantly increasing the speed of cube solving.

Although it marked the first application of magnetic concepts in magic cubes, the process was limited to a select few players skilled at modifying the cubes, making it an exclusive technique. It was only in 2016 when GAN356 Air UM incorporated this technology for the mass production of magnetic cubes, sparking a global speed revolution among players.

2017: Positioning Magnet Slots Technology

After the initial amazement, the shortcomings of glued magnet placement technology began to surface. The manually placed magnets lacked precise positioning within the cube pieces, resulting in deviations between the magnets and hindering precise alignment. Additionally, the glue used to attach the magnets lost its adhesiveness over time, leading to magnet detachment.

In response, GAN Cubes developed the positioning magnet slots technology, introduced in GAN356 Air SM in 2017. This method involved fixed slots with adhesive to hold the magnets firmly in place, achieving double the fixing effect and unprecedented precision. The invention of positioning magnet slots was a significant leap in magnetic system accuracy.

2018: Transparent Magnetic Capsules and Variable Magnetism Technology

Even with the advancement of the second-generation positioning magnet slot technology, occasional magnet misplacements and detachments still existed. Since the magnets were concealed within the cube pieces, it was challenging to confirm their proper installation from the outside, leading to the risk of magnetic leakage. Moreover, if a magnet detached, locating its exact position for repair was difficult, affecting the magnet's adhesion and producing noise.

In 2018, GAN Cubes introduced a more advanced magnetic system on the GAN460 M cube, namely the transparent magnetic capsule technology. It revolutionized the magnetic landscape. By embedding 48 magnets in transparent capsules and placing them outside the cube pieces, potential misplacements were nearly eliminated. In the case of magnet detachment, the position could be easily identified for effortless repair. The era of visualized magnetism began with the introduction of transparent magnetic capsules.

As magnetic cubes gained popularity, different players started having specific preferences for magnet strength, with some preferring strong, medium, or weak magnets. However, at that time, the magnetic systems had fixed configurations, unable to accommodate individual magnet preferences.

Then there was the GAN356 X in 2018, the world's first magnetic cube equipped with a variable magnet system. Its variable magnet system consisted of patented magnet slots and flashing magnet capsules, distributed among 12 edge pieces, allowing for manual switching between four magnet strengths, satisfying players' diverse magnet preferences. The year 2018 marked the advent of variable magnetism.

2019: Second-generation Variable Magnet Technology

The first-generation variable magnet technology gained popularity among magic cube players, but it left two minor drawbacks. First, each magnet switch required replacing 12 magnet capsules, resulting in relatively inefficient magnet changes. Second, it came with 36 spare magnet capsules, raising concerns about potential loss and system damage.

Fortunately, in 2019, GAN356 XS addressed these issues by introducing the second-generation variable magnet technology. It featured eight transparent magnet capsules embedded outside eight corner pieces. With one capsule and three degrees of magnet strength, magnet adjustments could be easily done by hand, increasing magnet switching efficiency by at least 33%.

Additionally, the new design eliminated the risk of losing spare magnet capsules. 2019 was the year of variable magnetism.

2020: Omni-core Positioning Magnetic Technology

Despite the several generations of upgrades from 2016 to the first half of 2020, magnetic systems in magic cubes still only featured single-positioning magnets between the cube pieces. However, the limited number and uneven distribution of magnets led to increased starting resistance during rotations and inconsistent magnetic bursts.

The tide turned in September 2020 when the magic cube world witnessed the release of the legendary GAN11 M Pro, the first cube to incorporate the Omni-core Positioning Magnetic System, which utilized magnetic axes as the core. This system involved adding eight magnets at the axis and corner piece junctions, creating a dual-positioning system of inter-block and axis magnetism.

The result? With 64 magnets distributed omnidirectionally, the starting resistance was significantly reduced, resulting in a smoother and faster linear magnetic output. The magnetic core and core positioning ushered in the next generation of magnetic technology.

2021-2022: Magnetic Levitation Technology

If 2020 marked the beginning of Omni-core Positioning Technology, then 2021's O.C.P.T ver.2.0 saw its remarkable explosion with an unprecedented magnetic experience – magnetic levitation, as brought forth by the powerful GAN12 Maglev.

Magnetic levitation refers to the phenomenon when the outer layers of the cube rotate to a certain angle, breaking free from magnetic attraction and being repelled upwards, seemingly floating in mid-air. This magical effect is made possible by the awakening of magnetic repulsion, achieved through reduced magnetic elasticity and resistance, along with further optimization of magnetic distribution in corner pieces and axes.

In 2022, GAN13 Maglev further upgraded the magnetic levitation technology by adding 12 repulsion magnets on the edge pieces, unleashing the full potential of magnetic repulsion with a total of 88 points of magnetism. This breakthrough resulted in an all-space magnetic environment.

Magnetic levitation not only offers a sci-fi-like floating sensation but also enables the extraordinary 35°+ automatic realignment drift technique, making it a truly legendary creation.
